  • Tata Steel Challengers

I almost forgot about the challengers I was so absorbed by the top games. I'm going to concentrate on the Dutch players. They all have interesting styles.
https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2022...hl-L_Ami_Erwin Erin L'Ami is one of my favorites. He's a strategic player par excellence. Why I like his play so much is that he uses pawns and especially knights so well. In the first round he does not disappoint. After 21.d5 and the subsequent exchanges (Black gives up the exchange) Look at the strong knight on d5!

Rd 2 Volodar Murzin has started with two wins, mainly through his opponents giving him great opportunities.

Erwin L'Ami managed not to give away his strategical pluses and played a patient game cashing in at the end.

Rd 3 https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2022...-Dardha_Daniel Dynamic play by white playing Nf5. Cute tactical finish (40.Rg8+)

https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2022..._Foreest_Lucas Bold attacking game. 21.Nxe6 is the breakthrough.

Erwin L'Ami put on a show with active defense and now leads the Dutch contingent with 2/3.

In the Zhu - Nguyen game, Nguyen won a long endgame so he is now tied for first

Rd4 There must be mud in the water this round and no pea soup. All the games have dried up or blunders.

Rd5 Shuvalova almost let a wonderful game slip away but saves the win with the cute pawn tactic 48.b4!

Erigaisi and Murzin in a battle of the leaders had the advantaging trading back and forth until Erigaisi finally prevailed in the end.

Rd 6 Erigaisi continues his winning ways against Ganguly and now leads the field with 5.5 out of 6.

The two Dutch representatives Van Foreest and Warmerdam have finally won a game. (Erwin L'Ami already did) They will be celebrating in Holland.

Rd 7 https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2022...zi_Marc_Andria Nguyen played the lovely combo sacking the bishop 32.Bxh6! and 33.Nxe5 solving all his center problems.

Van Foreest and Warmerdam played high energy games beating L'Ami and Shuvalova respectively. They're on a roll.

Erigaisi leads at the half by a point.

Rd 8 Erigaisi wins again. 7 out of 8.

Dardha - Shuvalova a miniature. Smothered mate on the board.

Rd 9 https://www.chessbomb.com/arena/2022..._Surya_Shekhar Now here's a game I like. Both sides play for checkmate.

Erigaisi wins again. 8 out of 9 and a two point lead.
