  • Any chess clubs downtown Toronto?

    Hello all,

Do you know any good chess clubs downtown Toronto?

I found on torontochess.org the Scarborough chess club as well as the Mississauga chess club, but both of them are a bit too far.

I also found what seems to be a 'small' chess club near Ossington subway station, but they meet on Friday's, which is not my favorite night to play chess.

There must be another chess club or cafe where we can play chess downtown Toronto...?

    Thanks in advance!

Following the Saturday blitz which starts at 2pm, we have a sort of club where people match up for skittles games from 4pm on. There are no fees - just buy a coffee or drink! You'll find players 1400 and up. If you are at least 1800 level you might try the blitz which starts at 2pm. Sets and clocks are provided.

Mom's Cafe, 1096 Danforth (one block east of the Donlands subway station).

Also, there's the Annex Chess Club at 918 Bathurst, just N of Bloor. Monday night chess 6:30 - 11:00 pm. Chess lecture at 7:00. CFC-rated tournament round start at 7:30. Casual chess and chess-960 available, too.

          Hi
It might help if you give people an idea where you live cross streets and how far you are willing to go.

That way people can give you a more accurate post.
There are basically chess clubs that run Mon Tues Thurs Friday Sat and Sunday
Don't know any on Wed but I'm sure there must be one.
Annex club if you can afford their rates looks like closest to downtown.

The thread was started and buried in 2009 ;)

I am wondering if you are looking for a chess club, or looking to play chess in Toronto. There are places where chess players meet and play chess for fun, for practice and for profession. Visit places such as the Nathan Square, the park located along Queen street and church St, and during winter, people places in The Atrium, or Tim Horton coffee shops.

I am also interested to know what is a "good chess club".

I've been trying to put together a list of Toronto chess clubs. Most of it's on the GTCL site (and they've got a nice map) but I'm just interested in Toronto, not Brampton, Mississauga, etc. Anything big I'm missing?

I just thought it might be better to re-open it, rather than start a new thread. Sorry for the confusion. :o
