I just learned from Don Parakin, who is the CFC webmaster, that there is up to a 15% discount that CFC members get at Choice Hotels. See this link: https://www.chess.ca/en/players/benefit-choice-hotels/

I have revised the COVID-19 Protocol for the tournament as follows:
            • Facility capacity is restricted to the first 60 players that register. (this remains unchanged).
            • Mask use is optional. However, you must wear a mask if requested by your opponent when you are at your board. (new)
We have been using this protocol at our Tuesday night club meeting since the province relaxed the restrictions, and it has worked well.

Note that the original posting in this thread has been edited to match.

Hmm, does the requester must wear the mask as well? This shall be documented too.

Good point. I didn't explicitly state that, although it seems it should be obvious.

I will reword the original post to make that very clear.

The rate of new registrations is heating up as we approach game day. We are also approaching the capacity limit of the venue. This is not due to space but to the number of chairs and tables at the venue. We may be able to slightly increase the limit above the posted 60 maximum.

If you are interested in playing, I recommend that you register soon to ensure your placement. Note that anyone who registers and then decides not to play will be refunded in full as long as you inform me by 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22.

Note that some members of the Kitchener-Waterloo Chess Club have not yet paid their registration fees. Your placement is not secure until you do so. You could be bumped out by new registrants. Therefore I recommend that you send your payment ASAP.

When I post the next update, I will break the players into their appropriate sections.

                    1 David Ottosen 2113
                    2 Mahmud Hassain 2081

The list of registrants is mostly finalized. I have edited the tables above and will continue to do so as changes occur.

THANK YOU for editing the tables in place. So few posters here do that - it is SO refreshing to see you doing it "correctly". <applause>

Thanks Kerry. Editing in place is preferable but it does have a drawback. It does not bump the message thread to the top, so people not made aware changes have been made. They have to check the thread periodically just to see if changes have been made. In addition, tournament organizers definitely want the thread to be listed on the first page of the forum to create maximum awareness of the tournament. I think that is a big reason that posters add messages instead of editing them.

Brian You could always do editing and then bump after. I have not tried it but it seems reasonable. Glad to see you are getting OTB games now. My Big event will be the CDN OPEN in Hamilton.
