General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
I walked down to Tim's this morning for my morning coffee, not wearing a mask.
Most people on the street were without mask, but that isn't too usual for outside.
The "you must wear a mask" sign on Tim's door had been removed, but when I got inside, everyone was wearing a mask.
So I put mine back on. Walking back home, the sign in our lobby has been removed, but my companion on the elevator was masked.
So it seems, many people are still hesitant to remove their masks.
Or did I got the dates wrong? What is everyone experience today?
Just curious, i am not looking for a debate on policy or mask effectiveness.

Today is the day. You have the date correct. I think many people think that wearing a mask indoors is still a sensible thing to do.
Trouble is there are far too many people out there who don't give a sh!t about other people. I *think* retail stores can still decide
to enforce mask wearing - although I am just as sure that will create a tremendous blowback for them. Sadly, schools are required
to follow the mask optional policy (except I hear that Hamilton School Board has thumbed their mask covered nose at that directive).
Now we are entering the era where people wearing a mask will be ridiculed... I welcome that interaction... :)
Ford and the rest of the Ontario government has lost whatever minimal brain cells they may have had...
As Kerry mentioned, you do have the dates correct. We will continue wearing a mask for a few months yet. I expect it to be a while until I don't get the heebie-jeebies when surrounded by people without masks.
I know two people who recently got Covid. It's still out there. The number is expected to increase from the returning March Break travellers. But I was with the 100,000s watching the St. Patrick's Day parade yesterday.
I decided 1 coffee wasn't enough, so I headed out to a different Tim's location.
This time only 20% of customers were wearing masks, but still 100% of employees.
This Tim's has a much younger customer base.
I went in wearing a mask, came out mask free. :)
I suspect a gradual shift to maskless, unless of course there is a resurgent of COVID.
My building has many seniors, so I will continue masking if my neighbours are.
It's just a matter of being a good neighbour.
Date's correct, I still plan on wearing mine for a while. I think if you're among a riskier population segment (older, heavier, immuno compromised) you should take responsibility for protecting yourself as much as possible. How much a mask protects you is up to everyone's individual interpretation of their own science, but I consider it a freeroll - at worst, it does nothing. At best, it provides some protection.
For the immediately foreseeable future, I will not remove my mask indoors in public, and will continue to avoid such situations entirely except when absolutely necessary.
My sister-in-law's adult son got COVID-19 about a week ago. His adult sister, and her partner, caught it from him before he found out he had it.
My sister-in-law then got it from her son, and she has been very sick (Doesn't know if she has ever felt sicker).
So I think we will see a rise in new cases. But the new Omicron BA.2, though much more contagious, is less severe in terms of symptoms. So many will not have to go to hospital, so the system should easily cope after the peaks it has survived so far. None of my sister-in law's family went to a hospital emergency.
I am not quite as young as I used to be , and am in a high risk group (Diabetes). I will likely wear my mask for a while, and see what happens re the numbers generally. I will wear it when in contact with elderly persons, or ones I know are immune-compromised, for their sake (I have had 3 shots, and am eligible for the 4th, and will get it soon).
