  • ANVO PEI Open Chess Championship - Aug 5-7

For the first time since 2019, the ANVO PEI Open Chess Championship moves back to the traditional summer time period.

The main Championship takes place Aug 5-7, and there is also a 2 day option on Aug 6-7. The prize fund is expected to be in the $1,000 range.

For less serious player, we will have the half day PEI Open Amateur Tournament and PEI Open Junior Tournament, both on Saturday afternoon. Players can even build their schedule around this and also play in the Open.

New this year is the PEI Open Blitz Tournament, late on Friday afternoon

Our sponsor for this event, again this year, is ANVO Pharma

I'm hoping to piggyback on the PAWNWISE Chess Festival taking place the previous weekend in Halifax, this year, to help bring in some extra players from outside the Maritimes.

Did I mention we have some of the best beaches in the country and it's the middle of summer !!

OK, with a second tournament, you convinced me to make the trip down east as I've never been in the Atlantic provinces. So I'm looking for how to get a ride from Halifax to Charlottetown and where to stay.

IM Mark Plotkin is in the area and is dropping in on Fri, Aug 5 to participate in our PEI Open Blitz tournament. Hopefully a few players will want to come and try their hand against him.

NM Ryan Sowa has entered the ANVO PEI Open and is now the first seed. Ryan won this event in 2019, but has been unable to return during the Covid years until now.
