  • Hikaru Nakamura takes on Toronto and visits ACC!

    It is with great enthusiasm and honor that Annex Chess Club (ACC) welcomes Super GM Hikaru Nakamura to play OTB blitz games with our members.

    Hikaru is currently ranked #1 in the world in blitz, with a FIDE rating of 2909!

    DATE: Sunday October 16th, 2022

    TIME: 2pm to 6pm

    LOCATION: ACC’s playing hall, 918 Bathurst St, Toronto, ON M5R 3G5

    DESCRIPTION: Hikaru will play over the board blitz games against ACC Members & special guests such as GM Evgeny Bareev (highest rated Canadian and former #4 in the world), and IM Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux (U18 World Champion).

    ENTRY FEE: The event is free for ACC Members and invited guests. Members of the general public may observe the event onsite subject to paying a $10 fee at the door. The total number of attendees allowed in the Great Hall will be limited.


    REGISTRATION: ACC Members will be able to register online to play against Hikaru. Approximately 20 members will be selected at random from the registration list with the understanding that ACC reserves the right to achieve a suitable mix of players that reflects the Club’s motto: “Chess for Everyone.” Non-selected ACC Members may still have the opportunity to play (time permitting). To add to the excitement, our members will also have a chance to play blitz games against GM Evgeny Bareev and other titled players during the event. No registration is needed for members who simply wish to observe the games.

    HIKARU’S SCHEDULE: Hikaru’s visit to ACC will be part of a three-day trip to Toronto between Friday October 14th and Sunday October 16th. He will visit the Madison pub on Friday from noon to 4pm, and Chess in the Park (High Park) on Saturday between 1:30pm and 3:30pm.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: This event will be filmed. Attendees must not wear any clothing displaying specific messaging or branding which might conflict with the branding of either Hikaru Nakamura or his sponsor(s).

            I think it's great for the GTA chess community! It will leave some nice memories.
            Unfortunately, Fast Hands Eddy won't be in Toronto that weekend :)

              Yes, for sure nice memories. Hikaru Nakamura's visits to Canada and especially Toronto have always been memorable.

                    Neil Frarey ACC does not disclose the appearance fees of its guests to the general public, out of respect. We do however offer equal treatment to GMs of similar rating in all our events.

                          Thank you to everyone who attended the event and made it memorable!

                          GM Hikaru Nakamura played over 120 games in Toronto between Pub Chess, Chess in the Park and Annex Chess Club. No losses, 4 draws against GM Evegeny Bareev (equal time - 3min 2sec), IM Shawn Rodrigue-Lemieux (equal time 3min 2 sec) and CM Koosha Jaferian (2 draws with time odds 1min vs 5min no increment).

                            And 120 games without a loss, WOW, Hikaru is a veritable beast at blitz!
                            Same thing at the St.Louis Rapid & Blitz this summer, so so good at blitz!
