Second Annual Collingwood Somborac Chess Festival May 5-7

After an impressive debut in 2022, Organizer Milan Somborac is back with the Collingwood sequel on May 5-7.

The guaranteed prize fund has been increased to $3500, and a Friday night game has been added instead of 3 Saturday games. The tournament now boasts 3 FIDE rated sections - Crown, U1900, U1500 - to enhance the competitive experience.

I'll likely be registering at some point, if I can make it into the U 1900 Section...........want to play up, but need a few rating points to get back into the 1400's........hopefully they'll come out of the Aurora Spring Open for me!

If I register by April 1, and then don't have a 1400's rating at some point, and want to withdraw, what is the refund policy (Didn't see it on the flyer).

For all tournaments, there should be an exemption rule where seniors who have played for decades, but have fallen far from their peak, do not have to play in the bottom, beginner section of tournaments. They still want to have slow, interesting games, not blitz blowouts.

Hi Bob - I have put the question to the organizers but I don't see a problem with refunds. I also note that your FIDE rating is above 1400. That may be relevant.

Noted with thanks Danny. The scholastic season is always hectic. Collingwood is thinking about a November tournament as well.

The Aurora Spring Open is not yet formally published, but my score will definitely up my rating back into the 1400's (Given my rough idea of the formula).

So I can now pay to play up into the U 1900 Section.

My issue is too much chess......I usually restrict my non-club tournaments to 4 per year (Helps my marriage!).

I'm negotiating.......you may or may not see my registration to get the early bird ......Which appears to be to April 15.
