I notice you say "Canadian residents" not Canadian citizens. So, A Canadian who is resident in the US would not be eligible?

Canadian citizens who are registered with FIDE as Canadian would also be eligible whether they live in Canada or not. Several young men and women who are near the top of the rankings are living in the U.S. because they are going to school there or their parents are working there. Refugees and legal immigrants with an intention to settle in Canada would also be eligible in certain circumstances. There would be no question of eligibility for anyone who lives in Canada and has applied to FIDE to change their federation or already has Canada as their federation.

If there is doubt about eligibility the CFC board of directors is always the final authority.

As this is not a Zonal Championship like last year in Kingston, I guess no one could win a FIDE title norm?

Hi Erik, there will be no FIDE norms for this tournament.

Actually Nick, title norms are possible in a national championship. Under 1.43a of FIDE title regulations, the foreign content is waived. There are no direct titles in a non-zonal year but IM and GM norms are definitely on if we have GMs and IMs playing.

Thank you Vlad, for commenting on eligibility. Every effort will be made to accommodate those wishing to play. Any cases requiring a ruling from the CFC Board will be presented with dispatch. This will be a great tournament for our elite players to test their mettle.

Let us not forget that the Women's Closed is happening at the same time and place!
