Reykjavik has started. Ivanchuk is top seed and it may be the last time he is top seed in a strong international open (but one should not count Chucky out in any event). The Botez sisters are streaming and at one time had 20,000 viewers yesrerday. Also Anna Cramling with 11,000 viewers. Mother Pia is commentating on the main site. Eye popping numbers.
Reykjavik has been happening annually since 1986. That tournament was held in celebration of the 200th annniversary of the founding of Reykjavik. It was my first overseas international and it was a thrill to play. This fan is enjoying some of the games.

https://en.chessbase.com/post/nils-g...avik-open-2023 Nils Grandelius raised his game a competitive notch by winning his last three games on demand. His last round game featured a rook sacrifice (that was declined) to open the black king, Extremely interesting finish of the game.
