Bator Sambuev is certainly in a commanding position after round 6. In a normal tournament with a +5 score he could afford to draw his last three games, but this is no normal tournament.

Rd 2 Zhou - Sambuev What a game! How about the variation 50.Nf4 Rd6 51.f3 c3+ 52.bxc3+ Kc4+ 53.Kc1 Kxc3 54.Nd5+? Anyways thanks to the players for a great battle.
Huang - persevering in defence against Noritsyn.
Shawn Rodrigue - Lemieux - breaking down and using the d5 square - just lovely!
Razvan - the intricacy of corraling the past d2 pawn - what a pleasure to watch!Last edited by Hans Jung; Friday, 7 April, 2023, 04:07 PM.

Rd 2 Womens Closed Svitland Demchenko came up with a great idea on the white side of the French that I want to give a try. Great prep! and in the game its worked out fantastic.
I had my eye out on young 7 yr old Luba and she had what I thought was a great position before forgetting temporarily about her own king safety and reaching out with Qe8+ and then Qh5+. I would have loved to play Ne4 in that position.

Rd 2 Fascinated by Zhou - Sambuev with the battle of Ideas and counter ideas and how they play out. I have much experience playing with the black setup of pawns on c6, b5 and c4 but have not seen the line wihich plays out with whites queen going to e4 and e5 followed by e4 to hit the knight on d5.
Actually all four games that I can see in the closed are very interesting.

Looks like all the favorites won in the first round. Now we can settle in to watch a marathon of hopefully good battles
