    It says...

    Canadian Chess League

Our mission is to encourage and promote chess across Canada

So they hold a 10 week internet based quick tournament on Lichess, require CFC membership, and post the link on the CFC website. It seems Google search only finds it if you already know the name |Canadian Chess League".

edit. Go to town on this one, NJF. :)

The organization appears to be run by Adam Siegel - a Toronto player with a 2002 provisional rating. The last CCL tournament ended March 30, attracting 19 players in two sections.

Do a search on CCL for more crosstables.

My point Neil, was that they bill themselves as an organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging chess growth in Canada, Yet they make the same mistakes the CFC has always made. . They charge a high entry fee, and demand CFC membership, probably give top juniors half price and probably the lions share of the prize fund goes to the top players. And they advertise on the CFC website. They preach to the converted and do the very things that keep many out of "official" organized chess.

No one is forced to play chess in a CCL tournament, are they? Neil has been complaining online about the CFC for more than two decades. Why don't you and Neil put your heads together and do something different with chess?

Depends what you mean by "promotion" and "encouragement", no? Nice of them to organize another CFC tournament for the members, with the same tired old formula, but it won't bring any new players into organzized chess, and that ain't growth.

And yeah!! Neil, earlier today I had the same idea Mr. McKillop has just suggested, and a good one it was. I got a feeling that when it comes to chess we got a lot in common I'll be in touch.

Yes, an insane growth model for sure Fred.

Add to that their own unique brand of ... narcissism ... introversion ... and their longing to kiss FIDE's ass ever since the CFC's founding in 1932. MUAH! MUAH! MUAH!

Go ahead, McKillop ... try and find the Chess Federation of Canada very own Chess Teaching Manual on their very own chess dot ca website ... sigh ... can't even get that much right.

The Chess Federation of Canada (CFC), founded in 1872, is a registered non-profit organization in Canada whose mandate is to promote and encourage the knowledge, study and play of the game of chess in Canada.
Starts with a lie ... Ends with a lie ... That's the CFC we have to endure as of today!

But hey Peter, at least they're consistent ... you too.

                        ...

Fred, looking forward to your ideas !!!

Time for a fresh chess community 1st approach here in Canada.

I wouldn't go that far. I would just say a little misguided, and prone to making incorrect assumptions about the chess-playing public in Canada, the vast majority of whom show no interest in what the CFC has to offer.

                          .

                          .
Let's be careful what we say about "community". Off the top of my head I would say "Sure, a community approach is part of the picture, but let us first define what we mean by "community", and just how many of the people we want to target consider themselves to be "community oriented". Remember that the people we want to target already seem perfectly happy with the status quo.

                          I sent you a PM.
