2023 Canadian Junior Chess Championship
The Canadian Junior Chess Championship is a qualifier for the 2023 FIDE World Junior Chess Championship taking place in Mexico City from September 20 to October 2, 2023. The championship will be organized by the Mexican Chess Federation in collaboration with CONADE (National Sports Commission), COM (Mexican Olympic Committee), and Culture Ministry, under the auspices of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
The 2023 Canadian Junior Chess Championship is sanctioned by CFC and the winners of the OPEN Section (one boy and one girl) of this event will become the official Canadian representatives for the World Junior Chess Championship. As an official representative, the cost of hotel and meals will be covered by FIDE and CFC will cover your registration fee. As organizers of this event, we will provide a bursary of $1,200 per player to cover your flights.
While there are only two official players, all players in the OPEN section of this event are also eligible to participate in the World Junior Chess Championship in Mexico, based on your performance at this event. However, you will have to cover your costs for registration, travel, hotel and food. If you’re interested, please contact Christina Tao, the CFC Youth Co-ordinate at cfcyouthchess@gmail.com.
Finally, for those competing at the 2023 CYCC in Calgary, this event will be a good pre-event for the CYCC as you can test your preparation and use this as an opportunity to refine your tactics, strategies, and overall preparation for the CYCC.
