  • Canadians at the Francophonie

Several Canadians are playing at the Francophonie championships in the Ivory Coast. After 7 (out of 9) rounds, three Canadians are at the top. Probably no norms to be made due to the weakness of the event - mainly due to the lack of players from France.

In the rapid - Bator and Shawn finished 2nd and 3rd behind the lone French entry.

Four Canadians in the top 8 in the blitz.

Bator has already played SRL, Kenta and MJ. Imagine travelling 8000 km and then playing opponents like it's a Canadian weekend Swiss!

Not a very strong tournament. Unfortunately, only Canada (Quebec) sent strong players to this championship

Looks like someone in Canada didn't do the homework!

I travelled from Montreal to Calgary to play in the 1975 Canadian Open, and played against five players from Montreal.

Its nice to know everyone is healthy and enjoying travelling, added Africa to the list of continents to which they have travelled and that Shawn RL has won another tournament. Congratulations are due!

And Shawn, Nikolay and Bator will have another opportunity to express their talent in Africa this summer. They will participate in a tournament I am organizing in Morocco in August. Hopefully we'll have one or two more GMs in a month :)

The depth of that tournament is astounding, including some of my favorite chess artists!
