Its good to see this getting exposure, long overdue in my opinion. There is however a big difference between sexual predator and inappropriate behavior, although all are wrong and need to be censured.

And we need Canadian tournament officials to have training on how to proceed when inappropriate behaviour or assault happens. In addition to procedures for phone cheaters, emergency evacuation (such as a fire alarm), and first aid (such as a player having a seizure).

It seems the brave author of that reporting is being relentlessly attacked on social media (no surprise there I'm afraid).

Meanwhile FIDE has issued what I presume is an interim ruling:

“In the event that the gender was changed from a male to a female the player has no right to participate in official FIDE events for women until further FIDE’s decision is made,” it said.

I guess may sports are having similar issues deciding what to do about trans athletes (or just athletes who for any reason do not satisfy the sometimes odd or arbitrary definitions of sex/gender).
Wow, and some people worry about pronouns...

Chess official calls for more research as move to ban trans women from women's events draws fire

            Other federations speak up ...

Germany's chess federation messaged on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that it was "incomprehensible" that FIDE "still wants to check" the gender status of people legally recognized as women in their own countries.
Spineless Chess Federation of Canada ... says whatever FIDE tells it to say.

Yes I think because of her courageous stand there are big changes happening in US Chess - good for her.

I agree, good for J.S. But it's also sad. Yet one more instance of men in charge not stepping forward to do the right thing voluntarily, quickly, and incisively. They have to be forced. Why?
