  • Classic books revisited

https://en.chessbase.com/post/speelman-agony-202 Brings back nostalgic memories of some real old classics. How many of you remember the 3 volume series of Complete Chess Strategy for example? I have used all these books in the past to give chess lessons. Jon Speelman does an excellent update of some memorable games. How many of you dont know Averbakh - Kotov from Zurich 1953?

Or how about Najdorf - Ragozin? The brilliant play of the minor pieces for both sides. Najdorf accepts the queen sacrifice and then Ragozin performs on stilts! WoW! (how could I have forgotten this game? - but then I have seen sooooo many games - Still !!?

Or Botvinnik with the double E-pawns and the two Bs. Absolutely correct in his genius.

Or Tarrasch-Lasker with Kasparov's notes. Lasker's pyschological provocation against Tarrasch's classical play and then Laskers calculation and stunning Rxf4!!.

Finally from a dry opening Spielmann blows up the center with e5!?!, knight sac and d4! against Grunfeld. First class attacking entertainment!
