https://en.chessbase.com/post/chenna...the-candidates With a husband and wife commentary team! Looks like a great tournament! I have only one question?
    Why only seven rounds?

Double-round Zurich'53 style tournaments are long gone...

Are we going to be down to five rounds soon?

I mentioned a husband and wife commentary team but actually there will be two husband and wife commentary teams. A celebrity team of Anish and Sopiko with razor sharp wit will be welcome!

Sadly. One day there may be a 32 grandmaster (only!) double round robin on an island in the Pacific Ocean like Tahiti. The tournament will take three months and spectators will take an ocean cruise to get there. One can dream.

Rd 1 You cant really say upsets because both Harikrishna and Eljanov are both veterans and top 100 players but both wins after intense endgames. Doesnt get any better! Love it.

Rd 2 Harikrishna headed for the ending but his opponent Predke held all the cards. However there was enough for a draw. Eljanov played inaccurately in the middlegame and got caught by the nasty c4 and the passed pawn cant be stopped. Im liking this tournament. So far endgame wins and quite tricky. It all seems that the competitors are well matched

https://en.chessbase.com/post/chenna...verizes-predke Pulverization ?? Mere hyperbole. Just an exquisite endgame performance by Erigaisi.

Rd 4 Gukesh vs Predke Now thats pulverization! Sadly both decisive games of the round were decided in the middlegame.

Rd 5 Gukesh jumps into the lead with high pressure play on the kingside. The great endgames continue with Erigaisi missing great opportunities against Aronian and Eljanov winning a tense endgame against Predke.
