  • A bit of a side question for Winnipeg chess players

Does anyone know what street Abe Yanofsky lived on and/or worked on in Winnipeg?

I asked a friend of mine who lives in Winnipeg if he had ever heard of Abe Yanofsky, and by total coincidence he happens to live on Yanofsky Way! My friend had no clue why I asked him the question as I did not know his address, and he is not a chess player. He had only read a blurb about Yanofsky's involvement with Town Council, not chess.

My friend told me there was a petition way back in the late 70's or early 80's to prevent the city from naming the street "Wild Rose Way", and the petition won, so the street was named Yanofsky Way. Apparently a lot of the streets in the area are named after flowers.

Does anyone know if Abe Yanofsky lived or worked on that street? I'm just curious as to why that particular street was chosen over any other street in Winnipeg.

    Thanks, Jordan
No matter how big and bad you are, when a two-year-old hands you a toy phone, you answer it.
