Love this chess shop! Got all my sets for the Chess in the Park there. With 10% discount (when you buy bulk).
Also, lots of friends get these weighed pieces at your shop and I love to weigh the pieces in my hand trying to tell if it's double weight, triple weight, or quadruple weight. Like my friend Merv says - perfect for windy days!

A little anecdote about Larry and the Strategy Games chess shop. When the book Blindfold Chess came out because of Larry's efforts the book sold out, and sold out again, and then sold out again. Now that is dedication! He is always willing to go the extra mile and usually has the best prices.

I can see you getting this book, Hans....after 3rd try, all because of Larry's good sales skills :)

Don't forget about the Canadian Closed (Canada's actual championship!) held at Hart House, University of Toronto. It started yesterday and continues through the Easter Weekend.

Round 2 today starting 10 am. Round 3 today starting 5 pm. Round 4 tomorrow (Friday) at 5 pm. Round 5 Saturday at 10 am. Round 6 Saturday at 5pm.

and do your shopping at Toronto's only chess shop, Strategy Games. Details post #2 above.

Sounds like a plan Egis. :) Your club looks lovely, and whenever I look at any photos there is always cake.

If it's casual chess you are looking for, available every day as long as the sun shines, you will have more and better action down at Nathan Phillips Square

Fred Henderson good, but lots of sketchy people nearby. I also saw a couple of huge rats there 2 summers ago, in the wooden steps.

                          Olga,

Were the rats playing chess? :) (bad joke).

Yes, it is the Toronto downtown street scene and it heats up a bit at night, not a place for children, which is fine by me. In the afternoon it is fine. If you can't handle the street scene, and the sight of a rat or two, then yeah, you better stay away.. May as well stay off of Yonge St also.

Worth noting for those that scare easily is that the entire area is blanketed with security cameras that are always being monitored by city hall security.

p.s. A lot of times people wander by and see the action and want to play, but have no chess set. I tell them that they can be purchased at Chess'n Math, of course.

Do they still play in front of the church on Queen at Bond/Church?
