  • Grenke Classic

    First round was already entertaining.

Magnus caused a sensation by blundering against Richard Rapport.

However I enjoyed Fridman-Carlsen which had many entertaining moments after Magnus sacrificed the knight on g4 and got two looming connected passed pawns but there were many tricks. The reulting endgame where the white knight got tortured was also enjoyable.

Keymer- MVL was also enjoyable for endgame afficionados. On move 41 Keymer had a choice of at least 4 natural moves but chose the only one that led to a draw. More endgame mistakes followed but MVL held the draw. Its good to see players battling to the bitter end. (in this case not so bitter)

Lots of pawn play in MVL-Ding but ultimately a quiet draw.

Five endgames out of six games. Happy to see that.

Rd 3 Richard Rapport takes advantage of opportunities to take a big lead with a win against Fridman.

Lots of sparring in all games and two out of three endgames. Great news!

Surely Keymer had a win in the king and pawn endgame against Ding.

Can Richard Rapport keep up the hot pace? Lets hope so.

MVL threw away the ending against Fridman trying to hard to win.

Richard Rapport picks it up when he needs to.
