Yes Rejean thanks for pointing that out. Grandmasters should not miss that but at that point they must have been punch drunk (a boxing term - I can't think of a chess equivalent) Nikolay Noritsyn ended up winning the game.

Round 7 On board one after a lot of skirmishing Shiyam Thavandiran forced a draw. ( a draw was what I was hoping for)

Speaking of draws, a lot of draws on the top boards. I expect the players must be tired and the tension unreal.

Rd 7 GM Razvan Preotu sacrificed his queen for a lot of compensation and a lot of piece activity. A fun game to play and a fun game to watch.

Rd 7 A delightful game between IM Eric Lawson and Tyler Tanaka. A couple of pseudo queen sacks by Eric were entertaining as well as accurate defence against Black's threat. Then lots of entertaining knight play and finally a king hunt that never got finished.

In the Canadian Women's after round 6 a close race between Svitlana Demchenko and Maili-Jade Ouellet has developed. WIM Yunshan Li and WFM Morgen Mills are tied for third a full point back.

In the Premiere Vadim Razim held GM Golubka to a draw and his reward is clear first with 5 out of 6. 5 way tie for 2nd David Filipovich, Hugh Siddeley, Ashwin Chunchu, Tony Lu and GM Golubka. Should be a tight finish with everyone playing for a win in the last round.

Its a miracle! It really is a miracle! Shiyam Thavandiran looked under a lot of pressure, had seconds on the clock. Looked like he walked into a pin with 31. Bg6 and then a desperate rook sacrifice on f3 but actually the white king was in a box. After 32. Be8 Rf1+ 33.Ke2 Rf8f2+ 34.Kd3 Rd1+ Its checkmate next move!! Unbelievable!!! WoW! Shiyam!!!
Whats that song? There'll be dancing in the street! Im getting ready to dance in the street!

and Im posting the final position on my study wall! This is Canadian chess history being made!
