Chess Grandmaster Anna Muzychuk refuses to compete in Saudi Arabia, stating:

"In a few days, I will lose two world titles, one after the other. I've made the decision not to go to Saudi Arabia. I refuse to play under restrictive rules, to wear an abaya, to be accompanied by a man just to leave the hotel, or to be treated like a second-class citizen.

I am standing by my principles, even if it means not competing in the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, where, in just five days, I could have earned more money than in dozens of other tournaments combined. It's an unfortunate situation, but the saddest part is that no one seems to care. It's a bitter feeling, but there’s no turning back."

yeah, no problem...someone else sent this old news to CFC facebook and I saw it in a couple of other places on facebook. People are purposefully misinformed about the timing of this event - everywhere it looks like it's happening now. The question is why.

I'm surprised she played in Tehran (Iran) - also in 2017 - which has/had restrictive rules for women.
