  • Arbiter / Tournament Director Training?

I'd like to become a certified arbiter and/or tournament director. As it turned out we don't have enough :-).

Is there a training coming up in the next little while?

It really depends of your goals. Certified or maybe more precise licensed NA let you run FIDE rated events. If you're only rating with CFC, then it is not necessary to be "certified/licensed".

I'm not aware of any seminar for National Arbiter title in near future. Hart House will be doing for FA title norm in January. Bob Gillanders did couple Zoom seminars about directing tournaments - pairings systems, submitting results etc. Look on the CFC forum for summaries.

Nevertheless there are more requirements to get the National Arbiter title.

    1. Recommendations

    a. 2 recommendations from IA/FAs based on tournament experience

    b. Seminar + test = 1 recommendation

    c. Provincial president's recommendation + any NA recommendation = 1 recommendation

    2. Tournament experience as arbiter/player

    a. At least 10 tournaments as an arbiter/organizer

    b. At least 20 tournaments as an arbiter/organizer/player

Any FIDE rated tournament outside of Canada is counted. CMA events counted only if they are CFC rated.

    3. In certain cases CFC could waive 1 recommendation.

I agree about Victor, and you are doing a great job as CMA rep Francis.

Sitting in the training right now. We should rework this wording, because there's way too much room for interpretation.
