  • CFC Rating adjustment for January 1st, 2025

Just a heads up that there was a rating adjustment that took place today. All the details are on the CFC website. Bob Gillanders posted there It only affects players under 2000.

The difference between expected and actual scores by rating has existed for at least 15 years - probably longer. See this data which I published, not sure when exactly but circa 2010.

[can't figure out how to make chesstalk recognize the file but here: http://victoriachess.com/cfc/stats/expected.JPG ]

This issue was true for all strength levels - there is nothing special about 2000. See here:

Personally, I don't see that FIDE's "fix" (and likewise the CFC response) does anything to solve the forces that generate the discrepancy and fully expect the issue to reappear.

The existing bonus point formula was based on testing with the old rating scale and meant to at least partially counteract this problem. Presumably, the bonus point parameters should be adjusted to reflect the new rating scale or there may be some unexpected results.

Don't bother with the tabs at the top - the underlying data is not there anymore.
