Aum Menon: Rising Star in the Chess World

Aum Menon, a student of ieagleminds.com, has made both the platform and me personally very proud by securing a Top-3 podium finish in the U1600 section of the 53rd Annual World Open Chess Championship held in Philadelphia, PA, from July 2–6, 2025. The tournament saw participation from 162 players around the globe. Aum’s name is one to remember — he is destined to make a lasting impact in the chess fraternity.

      Check the Results @ https://www.uschess.org/msa/XtblMain...592.5-30247660

I first met Aum in July 2020 when he joined our Eagleminds summer camp as an 8-year-old. Since then, he had regularly participated in our tournaments while living in Canada and had recently enrolled as one of my Advanced students.

Aum Menon is a 13-year-old Indian-Canadian-American and the son of Bijesh Haridas Menon and Remya Krishnan Kutty. In 2024, his family relocated from Oakville, ON, Canada, to Chapel Hill, NC, USA. Upon moving, Aum took the initiative to start a Chess Club at Smith Middle School, where he recruited friends and led the team to win awards in US Chess Federation tournaments — including a commendable performance at the 2025 North Carolina K-12 Chess Championship held in Raleigh, NC, in March 2025.

Beyond his competitive achievements, Aum is committed to community service. He volunteers at a neighborhood senior center and conducts free beginner chess classes at the local public library, spreading his love for the game and giving back to the community.

Aum is excited to continue developing his chess skills and deepen his involvement in the game as he begins his next chapter at Chapel Hill High School in September 2025.

      Regards
