First of all, its nice to see Nava Starr playing. In her late 70's she's a fantastic role model for the younger generations.

Eddy Teodoro is playing. Even though he was IM strength back in the day (30 years ago) I'm rooting for him to make an IM norm. Happy hunting and great games Eddy!

I count 3 GM's and 9 IM's in the closed. Thanks to Bator Sambuev, Razvan Preotu, and Shawn R-L for helping to make this a classy and strong event!

Amongst the seven boards on lichess (that I could find) three ended in checkmate in the first round. Shawn R-L, Anthony Atanasov, and Mike Ivanov had sparkling checkmate finishes.

BTW, there are 55 players, which seems to me to be an excellent turnout.

Rd 2 all with perfect scores GM Sambuev, IM Atanasov, IM Ivanov, IM Plotkin, FM Keleberda, Koosha Jaferian, and Joseph Benher. They are hot and going for it!

There doesnt seem to be results for the women's.

Lots of upsets but mostly top players nicked for half points. Makes for a fighting tournament.

Finally found the women's results. Ten players tied for first including nine title players and 13 yr old Zlata Butenko. All have perfect scores.

Savio Benhur Joseph upset Eddy Teodoro in round two. Now he's got his hands full with Shawn RL.

Rd 3 Nice queen sacrifice and beautiful checkmating finish by Ryan Yang with the white queen a spectator. But li chess says draw???

After the first full day of chess (after round 3) who are the survivors. Well. in a sense, all who remain playing are survivors, so almost all the players.
FM Tymur Keleberda is the only perfect score (yes, 3-0!) in the closed. but hard at his heels are all 3 GM's, 4 IMs (Atanasov, Cummings, Noritsyn, and Plotkin) and Ryan Yang and Koosha Jaferian. Thats nine tied for second! and all having great starts!

I personally enjoyed the Shawn RL game, the Noritsyn game, the Preotu game, and the Yang game, all from round three.
