Thank for your patience regarding the tournament wrap-up. I'll split this into a few separate posts.
This first is for the thank yous involved for any event of this magnitude.
I want to begin with the committee we put together where each member helped in different ways and to different degrees.
Co-organizer Lee Hendon was integral for helping with a great majority of tasks--scheduling, DGT broadcast, setup, teardown and much more.
John Vlasov spearheaded a very successful fundraising initiative that raised over $10,000. This allowed us to offer a few upgrades for the entrants.
FA Anabelle Kovatcheva was the lead arbiter and provided great guidance and support along the path to zero-hour. Her familiarity with large events allowed us to avoid many pitfalls along the way. The rest of the arbiter team--Lee, Brian Clark, Tanner McNamara and Zheng “Cindy” Ren (who has now qualified as a NA), provided a professional team that Anabelle could rely upon.
Chris Osborne helped with researching/creating the history booklets that were provided. Erik Malmsten did much of the background work and we relied upon his research leads to find further details. Erik's assistance was invaluable.
Brady DeBoer designed and maintained the website and was prompt when changes/updates were needed. He and Lee did the background work for the live broadcast.
Randy Fintas, also provided valuable input when he could
Aram Ettibaryan provided the 5 DGT boards and some technical expertise.
The Best Western Hotel (Tianna Clarke and Natasha Campbell) provided a clean, well-lit playing venue and were very co-operative and concerned with helping make our event memorable.
Finally, to all our entrants and their support groups that came, thank you all for making this event Brantford's largest ever CFC chess tournament. A few minor hiccups along the way did not deter from the event overall.
