  • Western Summer Chess Tour

I am super excited and thrilled to be starting the Western Summer Chess Tour soon! Several events have already been confirmed with more to come. One of the things I am looking forward to most is seeing more of how chess brings people together across a diverse range of communities and meeting those who help support and promote chess and help the game grow through their efforts

Here is a listing of the confirmed events so far:

    Red Deer, Alberta (June 28):
    Red Deer Summer Rapid Championship
    Red Deer Summer Blitz Championship

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan- Saskatchewan Summer Chess Festival (July 25-28):
    Saskatchewan Summer Chess Festival-Open Championship
    Saskatchewan Summer Chess Festival-Rapid Championship
    Saskatchewan Summer Chess Festival-Blitz Championship
    Saskatchewan Summer Chess Festival-Bughouse Championship

Vancouver, British Columbia- BC Summer Chess Festival (August 1-3):
BC Summer Chess Festival - Open Championship
BC Summer Chess Festival - Rapid Championship
BC Summer Chess Festival - Blitz Championship
BC Summer Chess Festival - Bughouse Championship

Stay tuned for more exciting news and updates to come!

I was involved with Daniel's Atlantic Tour this spring, where he brought two weekend events and three one day events to five different cities in Atlantic Canada. He brought professional events along to places where their were gaps in existing schedules allowing players a chance to get more playing time in.

This Western tour he's doing now presents a new set of challenges as he's making initial contacts, making partnerships, etc. I'm interested to see how he fares and what other events materialize while he's out west.

What Daniel is doing is great. I always thought that the CFC needed an experienced chess club organizer/arbiter to travel to smaller chess centres across the country. I also thought, if I won the lottery, to sponsor a cross-country tour by some members of the Olympiad team..

Didn't the CFC used to have a downloadable book on running a chess club?

Erik Malmsten Thank you for the kind words. It's been a while since we've seen each other- not since the Candidates or a CITP meet-up. I hope everything is going great for you. It is an absolute pleasure and privilege to have the opportunity to organize chess events far and wide and to see how chess brings people and communities together for something we all love. One of the nicest things about organizing events is seeing new players signing up for their first tournaments. It is great to have the chance to promote the game and watch it grow with every new player joining in
