  • Was I one of the first CC players to play a computer?

When I first discovered CC around 1961-2, I played well over 100 games (Blitz CC?). Mostly CCCA and many Chess Review tournaments. I was 17 and could hardly wait for the next batch of moves to arrive! Some will remember those assignment sheets from Chess Review, how excited I was to see the variety of names I would face in my new event.
One Chess Review assignment I have never forgotten included a player called BL Room. I am not sure when that was. Many years later, I am sure.
His/her address was c/o Carnegie Mellon University. I noticed that he/she never signed the card I received with the moves as was required. I asked about it and did not receive a response.
Only many years later did I discover that Hans Berliner was doing work on a chess computer at Carnegie Mellon U. I would bet that he or the computer class was located in Room BL at Carnegie. I do not recall what year that assignment sheet was received.
60+ year old memories are not always accurate. But, I wonder…
When I met former World CC Champion Berliner at Daytona beach, FL, (around 2,002?) at an ICCF Congress, I had almost forgotten the incident, alas! I did not ask about it.
Recently, when cleaning out some old game scores and assignment sheets, it brought some memories to mind.
