  • National Capital Open: last week for $15 early discount

Hi again, if you are considering playing in the National Capital Open, please remember that this is the last week for the $15 discount for paying early. More specifically, if paying by mail, your envelope must have a November postmark. And if paying me in person at the RA club, I expect to be there this Thursday evening, the 26th, from 7pm onwards. Please note though that after 730pm, I am playing a game, and so it might take me a few moments to notice you! ;)

Refer further down in this post for the list of currently registered players. I expect to post the next list update after RA club registrations this Thursday.

    Yours in chess,

    Aris Marghetis
    - Organizer/TD
    - EOCA President
    - CFC Governor
    - FIDE Arbiter

    --------- previously posted information ---------

This weekend event is relatively similar to previous events by this Organizer, but there are a few changes, hopefully improvements! First of all, we are starting with 3 predefined sections, around the rating cutoffs of 2000 and 1600. In addition, one of our goals is to attain a total prize fund of at least $2K, with a first place of at least $500. Towards that end, some of the discounts and entry fees have been adjusted, either up or down $5-$10. Most players who register early enough as Amateurs, can still do so for as little as $30, and the full entry fee due onsite is actually less than it was for the previous EOCA Grand Prix tournament in Ottawa, the RA Fall Open in September. The only significant entry fee change is that now both GMs and IMs can enter for free!

Please note that I am still looking for at least 2-3 floater players :
    - floater players help the TD guarantee no “forced byes”
    - floater players are paired and rated like all the players
    - floater players play for free, but under some conditions :
----- they play in 0 to 5 rounds, depending on byes by all the players
----- they can be phoned/texted in the hour before every single round
----- they have a current CFC membership by the time of first pairings
if you are interested in being a floater player for this event, please apply by email

    --------- original event announcement ---------

The Eastern Ontario Chess Association (EOCA) organizes the EOCA Grand Prix, a series of weekend tournaments over the 2009-2010 chess season.

The next EOCA event in Ottawa will be the National Capital Open, on December 4th-6th. It will consist of 5 rounds, with flexible bye and Amateur options.

We are planning multiple (3 or more) sections (all rated CFC), class prizes for every 200 rating points from 2200 to 1600, and several discount options.

For more details on this event, and a great webpage for all of the events in the 2009-2010 EOCA Grand Prix, please consider bookmarking this weblink:
