  • Global Chess Festival with Judit Polgar and Norbert Fogarasi

https://en.chessbase.com/post/11th-j...chess-festival - I just have one question. Is Norbert Fogarasi the expert strength player that used to play tournaments in Toronto in the 90's?

Hans, it appears that the Norbert Fogarasi in this coverage is indeed the same Norbert Fogarasi (rated between 2000 and 2200) who played in Canadian events in the late 1990s. There are visuals, and the resemblance is spot-on! I did a google search for him, and got more info. I played and defeated Norbert (Kingston, March 1997); I annotated the game for the magazine. He is now head of Morgan Stanley in Budapest; that is a major financial services company. Heady times for Norbert; working with GM Judit Polgar on chess; the two would be about the same age, and Fogarasi is a Hungarian name; there is also at least one very strong 'Fogarasi' chess player!!
