  • 2025 GTCL Cup, Dec 1

It's back! We invite chess players from across Toronto to join us for a great evening of team chess!

ACC is honoured to be hosting this annual event on behalf of the Greater Toronto Chess League.

    Date: Mon Dec 1
Format: Team Swiss, 5-rounds, Round 1 at 7pm
    Time Control: 10+5
    Chief Arbiter: Heidi Gay

    Sections: Championship (FIDE/CFC-rated) and U1800 (CFC-rated)
Average CFC Quick ratings of top 4 boards used for team placements. FIDE Rapid or CFC Regular ratings may be used for players without CFC Quick ratings. Arbiter's discretion for other ratings.

Each team has four players (and may have an alternate). Individuals may register and be placed on a team by the organizers.

    Board Order
Championship: Teams can be arranged by any order. Board order at registration will be used, and updates can be emailed to tournaments@annexchessclub.com
The board order is fixed after round 1 has been paired. Should an alternate play, the alternate must play on board 4 (and everyone moves up one board for the player sitting out).

U1800: Teams must be arranged by rating, so the highest-rated player is board one, the lowest, board four.

Electronic policy: electronics are not permitted during the game. If a device goes off or is used during the game in any form, the player will lose the game.

    ---

Team captains may register a team, and must remit all necessary fees, the organization represented, and a list of players in order of rating (board one, two, etc.) All participants must have a current CFC membership.

Registration fee: $10 per non-ACC member on the team, $5 per ACC member on the team. Payable by e-transfer to info@annexchessclub.com

    ---

On-site registration is $20 per individual ($10 for ACC members.) Registration online is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED. Registration closes at 6:30 p.m. SHARP on the date of the event.

Please EMAIL updates to team rosters after registration to tournaments@annexchessclub.com. We will only accept changes from the team captain.

        Geriatric Weekend Warriors' Society (80+)

GWWS(80+) was hoping to enter a seniors' team.

But member, John Monné, 94 y.o., lives in Brantford, Ontario, and prefers to stick to daytime chess (Not to mention the arrangements that would be needed re an evening in Toronto). So he was not available as a team member.

Then I, 80 y.o.., in Toronto, who had been available (And we'd conscript from non-member seniors to complete our team; preference order: 80+; 65+ Seniors on our Waiting List; 70+; 65+.), have had a last minute change of schedule, and will no longer be in Toronto on Dec. 1.

So GWWS(80+) will pass on this year's GTCL Cup. Maybe next year.

Note: We have a Members' Waiting/Supporters List. They receive copies of our public emails to know what we're up to from time to time. The 65+ seniors get some preference in our senior team creation. If you are 79 y.o., and are considering joining on your 80th birthday, contact me: bobarm111 at gmail dot com and I'll add you to our list.......get all the latest poop immediately. Same goes for those who would like to "support" our effort by lending their name (goes on our flyer).......just let me know you'd like to be added to this list. Thanks.
