Max Warmerdam seemed confused in the last half of the game. He played the endgame terribly and ended up making it easy for Andy Woodward.

Remember what I wrote about Maurizzi giving his opponent the Irish center? Well that Irish center hamstrung his opponent. For the last half of the game his opponent only had the dark squares and had to watch helplessly as Maurizzi infiltrated on the white squares.

Faustino Oro is on track for his final GM norm for the GM title. Great start in the prescribed manner of the old school - 2 wins for White, 2 draws as Black. Stay solid young man!

Rd 5 Masters The eagerly awaited game between Niemann and Abdusattarov resulted with sparring and duels between many of the pieces. Sharp tactics and imbalances predominated. A fascinating endgame with rook and bishop vs bishop and knight and 3 passed pawns resulted but the passed pawns unfortunately could not be coordinated by Black - so draw. This fan was definitely not disappointed.

Erigaisi's keeping the king in the centre resulted in a spectacular king hunt by Fedoseev. It ended up with an extended king walk and no checkmate but the position got blown apart anyways. Exciting chess and a win for Fedoseev which puts him back in the race for first.
