No details at this point...This post is only an advance notice to better plan your next summer...Hopefully an official announcement with all the details will follow in 2-4 weeks.

The Quebec Open has been conformed for July 24-31, 2010 in Montreal at the same site as last year (Collège Brébeuf).

Post-Deadline Bids Go to the Executive

          Hi Caesar:

Bids are normally presented to the Governors for approval at the AGM.

But I have checked the CFC Handbook, Section 9 dealing with Important Canadian tournaments and Bids, and it states:

          Uncontested Bids for National Tournaments

          944. If the published deadline for bids has passed, the CFC Executive is empowered to award all national tournaments unless there are two or more conflicting bids. [see Motion 80-20; GL, June 1980, p. 125]

I believe the deadline for bids is the preceding AGM, which was held in Edmonton in July. So I assume it will be the responsibility now of the Executive to accept the bid.

So details will likely have to await this process being completed.

          Bob

Let's hope the Toronto committee had enough sense to make the Cdn Open 2010 dates to not overlap with the Quebec Open.

This happens every year, so lets hope it was changed.

Re: Circle your calendars for 2010 Canadian Open!

The Canadian Youth Chess Championship's last round will be on July 9th starting at 10am. The website says that playoffs and prizes will be at 3pm on July 9th.

The CYCC 2010 will be in Windsor, ON.

Is it reasonable to assume that CYCC partipants will be able to make it to the 1st round of the Canadian Open in Toronto by July 10th?

It is about a 3 1/2 hr. drive from Windsor to Toronto on good highway. Someone else will have to speak to train/bus.

So it seems like it should not be a problem.

The CYCC has been scheduled for July 6 - 9 for a while. Getting from Windsor to Toronto is easy enough, as Bob said, on the 401. Alternatively, there is VIA, Greyhound, Air Canada, and the adventuresome might want to launch a canoe on the Detroit River, and float downstream to Toronto. Watch out for Niagara Falls!

A bigger issue is whether players might want to play two tournaments back to back. However, for many years, CYCC and Cdn Open were intentionally organised back-to-back in the same city, so I guess some players have the stamina.

If you are really a glutton for punishment, you could play in the World Open ending on July 5th, play in the CYCC from July 6 - 9, the Cdn Open from July 10 - 18, and then got to the Quebec Open in the last week of the month.

                  The CYCC website is www.cycc.ca
