Fantastic tournament for Anthony Atanasov! GM norm and 15th place - same score as many great GM's. He also played 8 GM's out of nine games, every player was over 2500 (I think) and he was undefeated!

GM norm for Tani Adewuni and a tie for fourth. Huge tournament for him.

Fabiano Caruana finished second but was in the running all the way. He gained one rating point for his efforts.

Tani wrote a book at age ten called My Name is Tani. Its a great inspiring read. He should write another telling about the journey.

https://www.chess.com/events/2026-sa...umi_Tanitoluwa I must also point out the success of my good friend Tani Adewumi. Since losing to Max Warmerdam in round 1 he has been setting the board on fire. In this his round eight game his opponent resigned before eventual checkmate. This critical win ensures the GM norm.

It was a huge win for Anthony in round 8, as he used his chance in potentially unpleasant endgame. According to my calculation, GM norm is already guaranteed.Last edited by Victor Plotkin; Saturday, 28th February, 2026, 11:39 PM.

With Anthony beating Alexandr Fier in round 8 and getting paired against 2658 rated Grigory Oparin in round 9, if my math is correct, he has wrapped up a GM norm even with a loss in the last round of the tournament. Getting a plus score against 9 GMs, all rated over 2500, is really impressive.
