        • Fabiano Caruana must have been having fun. He got in the "automatic Rxc3 sack and on top of that the magnificent outpost Nc4!! (unmolested even!!) Then he started dithering (because he was so thoroughly enjoying himself!) and as a perfect host would, he allowed his opponent's tripled pieces to invade the H-file and check his king, knowing that the king had a hidey-hole on e6. When Esipenko played Qc8+ (blocked by Nd7) he set himself up for Nb6 and Nd4 checkmate. Fabiano probably went away dancing! What a perfect finish to a rather miserable tournament.

          • Rd 14 Bluebaum went into the Lions Den of tactics with Giri and got mauled. Incidently the computer awarded Giri a double exclam for Bd5 but the evaluation went down! I have never seen that happen before.

            • Giri finishes with +3 , a score trrhat would allow a normal human to win this tournament normally (not predicting Sindarov to go on a rampage). Maybe we should nickname him Anish the second.

              • In the women's Vaishali played into Lahno's Dragon and defended the king attack. She won in style and thereby won the candidates!

                • Assaubayeva could only manage a draw against Deshmukh when she needed a win for a tie of first place.

                  • After some good sparring in the endgame Muzychuk and Zhu settled for a draw.

                    • Rd 14 Goryachkina survived the scary passed rook pawn in a knight endgame and then showed how its done with her own passed rook pawn.

                      • Vaishali clear first with 8.5 (+3). Assaubayeva an impressive second with 8. Zhu and Goryachkina both 7.5.

                            • Nakamura is probably the greatest current commentator. In the future he should stick to that.

                              • I really enjoyed watching the candidates and look forward to thoroughly enjoying the upcoming World Championship between Gukesh and Sindarov.
