  • stunning upset win of European Championship

https://en.chessbase.com/post/european-ch-2026-r11 I am very happy to post this! What a story. (be sure to read the little story about the background of the winner IM Roman Dehtiarov from the Ukraine, towards the bottom of the article)

IM Roman Dehtiarov was a clear winner at the head of the crosstable - in front of 20 GM's in a row!

take note of the name! - this is a grand entrance to the top of the international chess world! - we'll be seeing alot more of this youngster.

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=3134140 The game that drew the most attention was Dehtiarov - Pichot but I prefer this one against Lodici. - note 27.Nxf7!! - spectacular breakthrough!

IM Roman Dehtiarov - great fighter and attacker!

The Lodici game was very sweet, to be sure!! He truly has a chance to become the noblest Roman of them all!!! Could Roman get the GM title directly, as the result of this spectacular performance!? He won the European Championship ahead of a strong field full of GMs!! I am thinking back in history to 1957, when an untitled Mikhail Tal, at age 20, was awarded the GM title by special permission from FIDE, after winning the 24th Soviet Championship!!

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=3143045 I love Black's relentless probing of the kingside. The king can run but the rest of the pieces can't hide.

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=3143273 A sweet Lopez. After all the knight dancing and skirmishing its the black kingside that is decimated.
