I see NM Kraiouchkine is playing. I wish him well.

About 15 years ago I was playing NM Kraiouchkine in the last round of an Ottawa event. He was leading with 3.5/4, he beat GM Sambuev to get there, and with a win would have won the tournament clear. In the time scramble I pressed my clock but didn't notice that my time was still going. This was a problem with earlier electronic clocks. Sometimes you would press them, and the clock didn't register this. Many years earlier the same thing happened to my opponent, IM Jeremy Silman, in a tournament in San Francisco. We just sort of agreed over the board that he had reached time control and kept playing.

Anyway, in the Ottawa game, my opponent generously pointed out what had happened. We continued the game, he lost, which left him out of the money. A very classy move, imo.

Hey Tom, The name Jerry Xiong came up recently and I wondered how he was doing and is he still in chess.

Not so far as I know. I haven't spoken to him in a very long time and I haven't seen him online playing, either. Very talented player, probably makes the top five most talented I ever taught.
