I usually only select the top celebrity tournaments to report on chesstalk but there are many other varied invitationals being played around the world. Here is one that struck my interest. It has a good report and is extremely strong. The well known Americans Ray Robson and Sam Sevian are playing. Its located in Jermuk, a resort town in Armenia, about 200 kms southeast of Yerevan. All the players are in the top 100 in the world except one and he is close. Ray Robson is tied for the lead and has the best performance. His only two wins were as Black and his only loss was 136 moves. Many exciting endgames have been played. Check out the games.

Sam Sevian has beaten Ray Robson in round 7. Big win. Sam is now tied for first with Artemiev and Sarin.

Rd 9 Sam Sevian won on demand against Aravindh (a recent 2700) in the last round. As a result he ties for first with Artemiev and an additional reward is he's back at 2700 and ranked number 33rd in the world.

Ray Robson finished a half point back and tied for third with Sarin (the highest rated player in the event). Also a great result. Maybe a tournament report could be written titled: Two Americans in Armenia.
