The subject line gave me quite a start - at first. Maybe adding a couple of "still active" words like "still winning at 70" would keep ME from some anxiety! LOL
(in retrospect, the subject did NOT contain "RIP" or similar)
:)...Mike Pence: the Lord of the fly.

Sorry to get your anxiety up Kerry. You made a good point however. Usually after a certain age the only news we expect (especially after Covid) is a RIP. Nice to know people can be celebrated after age 70 as champions. What John Nunn did (in an open field) was an incredible feat!

No worries Hans... just a tease. It honestly made me think "oh no..." but I quickly realized he was just in the news for the right reasons...Originally posted by Hans Jung View PostSorry to get your anxiety up Kerry. Yes, that was a remarkable accomplishment at 70....Mike Pence: the Lord of the fly.

I agree, this is an incredible achievement for GM Dr. John Nunn!!! Congratulations, GM Nunn!!!
I am now going to share a very bad joke, a pun joke, about GM Nunn, who has filled many roles during his career (Oxford University team member, earned doctorate in mathematics from Oxford, GM, British Champion, many-time English Olympiad team member, prolific and excellent writer, champion solver, to name just a few). Most people don't know this, but John is actually also the Vatican's representative to English chess. How so!? Well, when he co-wrote 'Nunn's Chess Openings', or NCO for short, in 1999, he also became a Papal NunnCO!!! As invited by the late Pope John Paul II, who was a chess person of some note!
