https://www.chess.com/events/canadia...o-Justin_Huang Lots of tricks and trumps in the opening, including advancing rook pawns, but White has the last say in a well played kingside breakthrough in the endgame.

Rd 7 The top two Canadian GM's went at it and it was an exciting game. It rapidly went to an endgame and a tussle with knights and rooks before settling into a pure knight endgame with White up two pawns. This fan sure enjoyed it.

FM Koosha Jaferian rebounded with a combined defensive effort with well placed pieces and two connected passed pawns on the queenside. Then his eagle eye spotted the breakthrough with his superb knight which led to checkmate! Woo Hoo!! Well done! and congratulations! What a turnaround!

Two veteran stalwarts and Olympians who have met many times over the board, GM Sambuev and GM candidate Noritsyn had themselves another tussle over the board. GM Sambuev chose pawngrabbing and IM Noritsyn responded with well placed pieces which eventually led to domination of squares and a kingside attack. After the smoke had cleared IM Noritsyn had a dominating endgame with an active rook vs a feeble knight which soon wrapped up in a win.

Rd 8 On board one a great spar fest took place between GM Stremivicius and GM Shawn R-L, absolutely thrilling! A very interesting endgame resulted wuth White having the two bishops but Black having it seemed more opportunities to advance pawns. Black managed to create a passed rook pawn but couldn't make further headway so draw.

https://www.chess.com/events/canadia...-Sambuev_Bator GM Sambuev rocketed out of a closed position with exhilarating pawn play and a nice knight sacrifice. His opponent made things interesting with an attempt at checkmate but GM Sambuev's pieceplay was not to be denied.
