GM Razvan Preotu and GM Golubka have joined FM Koosha Jaferian and GM Stremavicius in second to setup an exciting finish in the last round.

With a win or draw against GM Shawn R-L in the last round, FM Koosha Jaferian could earn an IM norm. (thats my guess, it would be nice to have that confirmed) What a tournament FM Koosha Jaferian has had! Kudos! Go Koosha Go!!

Other critical pairings in the battle for first are: GM Stremavicius vs GM Preotu and GM Sambuev vs GM Golubka.

Another sentimental favorite pairing (for me) is: FM Calix Marchand vs IM Nikolay Noritsyn.

No. Canadian Open has not enough foreign players. Gains a lot of rating points with great performance.

Giveaway chess by White in final round!? GM Stefansson (Iceland) vs GM Nasuta (Poland). Why doesn't White simply resign!? This is embarrassing. Or is someone trying to send a message!?

I take back my previous post on this thread. I guess it was a transmission error!! The game wound up drawn.

https://www.chess.com/events/canadia...mings_David_H_ IM Samsonkin's queens knight went on a cycling tour of the board and was the key piece for the last half of the game. What an endgame!

FM Calix Marchand did the unbelievable! He beat IM Nikolay Noritsyn! WoW! The white queen played dodgeball in the opening but then Black settled in with his kingside attack. Black must have missed something because White got a fierce counterattack and simplified into a winning endgame.
