https://www.chess.com/events/2026-ca...Divya_Deshmukh Although Carissa Yip built a strong position and won a pawn she then played some inaccuracies and decided to simplify to a draw.

https://www.chess.com/events/2026-ca...oula-Lee_Alice Alice Lee went wrong in the opening and never could get her sense of direction. She finally succumbed to a checkmating attack.

https://www.chess.com/events/2026-ca...niuk_Alexandra Everything is going wrong for GM Kosteniuk. Her opponent's pieces swarmed her position and it ended a brutal miniature.

Have you ever agonized over a game when watching another player play it? I am right now. I'm watching Alice Lee playing Tan Zhongyi and she is winning but she misses the key breakthrough move. She did all the work to get to the position (which I couldn't do) but I see the key move (a knight sacrifice on e6) in an instant. Literally in seconds. She misses her opportunity and then misses two more. Now thats agaonizing.

That Alice Lee is winning against Tan Zhongyi is no mean feat. Tan Zhongyi going into the round was leading the tournament clear.

I guess I am being rewarded as a fan. The IM Lee - GM Tan Zhongyi game is going into a fascinating endgame.

GM Kosteniuk achieved a draw. Good thing, as she is too good a player to go into a complete meltdown.

https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=3191800 Alice Lee vs Zhongyi Tan GM Tan saved a draw against IM Lee. Narrow escape. IM Lee is still on track for a GM norm at the half.

At the half GM Tan leads at 4 out of 5. Tied for second are GM Assaubayeva, GM Deshmukh , IM Lee and IM Tsolakidou, all with 3 out of 5.

Quite the fighting tournament! Holding down the last 3 places with negative scores are GM Koneru, GM Vaishali, and GM Kosteniuk. All of them have won many tournaments in the past.

Alice Lee vs Tan Zhongyi, White to move. Move 28. What I saw was 28. Nxe6 with a winning combination as the white queen mops the kingside.
