Canadian Open : Results and Pairings

Yves: Would it be a good idea to put the Results and Pairings into a single thread? I would be happy to do that. We could also make it a "sticky" thread for the duration of The Open, so that it would always be at or near the top of the list of threads.

Let me know if these are useful improvements and I will get on it.

Re: Canadian Open : Results (after round 8) and pairings (round 9)

                Hello

I see Omar Shah got paired against Doris Kayembe, and Agcaoli and Libersan got paired against each other. It was complicated because both Shah and Agcaoli had had 2 consecutive blacks, and due to play each other in the last round in terms of standings (Shah with 7.0, Agcaoli and Libersan both with 6.5, Libersan and Shah having played in Round 8). Good to see that colours are priority over standings. It'd be a pain for anyone to have 3 blacks in a row.

On another note... has anyone gotten a norm, or who's running for norm grabs in the last round?

I am by no means an expert on Fide title regulations, but I just did a quick check for norm possibilities... please correct me if I am wrong.

I think that Cornette and Venkatesh both can get a GM norm with a draw tomorrow.

Also, I believe Roussel-Roozmon can get a GM norm with a win tomorrow. After tomorrows game he will have played 8 GMs in 9 rounds!

Re: Canadian Open : Results (after round 8) and pairings (round 9)

My quick calculation shows Roozmon with a 2529 average opposition after adjusting his first opponent for norm purposes. A GM norm is a 2600 performance, so I think you are right about Thomas. I haven't looked at the player history of the other 2 IMs but must be very close already.

Would 3 GMs norms in one event be a Canadian record?

In fact, Cornette has already earned the GM title with a third norm not long ago in a European tournament.
