  • Corus rd 3: Nakamura stands taller than Short

Nakamura continues to impress his Canadian followers by rocking former world challenger Short!

Short's 19.b4? was not accurate but what can he do to prevent Black's impending pawn roller in the center beginning with f5? Nakamura first dislodge the defending knight with e4, then put pressure on f2 with 21. ...Bh4, which makes the 20. ...Qb6 the critical move.

After a long series of simplifying exchanges, Nakamura's win was never in doubt. After 33....Qf6, Short should have resigned and use the time to eat sushi and teriyaki !!

Sushi is not the first thing I'd associate with a wind-swept North Sea community like Wijk aan Zee ...
