  • Corus Comes to a Dramatic Close

Carlsen appears to be headed for his first loss while Kramnik agreed to a draw. That left Shirov-Dominguez. In a game full of fireworks, both players ran desperately short of time. With best play, it would be a draw. But Dominguez cracked under the pressure and blundered giving Shirov the opportunity to win (Rybka assessed his position as +10) but Alexei ran out of time and agreed to a draw leaving tied at 8 with Kramnik.
It is now all up to Carlsen. A win or a draw and the youngster racks up another fantastic victory.
    A cruel game is chess.

Carlsen already lost a game, to Kramnik.

Re: Corus Comes to a Dramatic Close-FINAL RESULT

Caruana failed to press home his advantage allowing Carlsen to escape with a draw and sole first place at 8.5 followed by Kramnik and Shirov at 8.0. Awesome performances by all three: Carlsen once again established himself as world number one; Kramnik built on his Moscow triumph with another rock solid outing; while Shirov, ranked sixth at the outset, played magnificent fighting chess. If Shirov had managed to convert his winning positions (in desperate time trouble) against Anand and Caruana...but if pigs could fly...
In any event, very creditable performances by all three not to mention Anand who breezed through without a loss. Great tournament!

This might be slightly off topic, but I would just like to thank the Canadian fans for their favourable comments about my games during the tournament!

              Hikaru:
Outstanding performance. You have shown, especially with your win over Shirov, that you belong among the top players today. Your exciting style makes you a fan favourite wherever chess is played but you have a particularly exuberant fan club in Canada.
              Keep up the great play.
