Though U of T has submitted a list of players, I am still waiting on confirmed rosters. Based on the list, I am anticipating 2 teams, each with one reserve, but that Alex character is always full of surprises.

    Hi,

We're awaiting on a couple of confirmations still, so far here's our latest update:

    Bindi Cheng (2485)
    Alex Ferreira (2080)
    Haizhou Xu (2041)
    Stuart Brammall (1974)
    Jonathan Yu (1969)
    Robert Kleinman (1878)
    Benjamin Davidson (1799)
    Adrienne Todd (1758)
    Siang Khor (1738)
    Abeer Rahman (975)
    Amir Ghandhari (unr)

3 teams taking into account we'll have the ability to get 12+. 11 listed above. Certainly looks like two teams in Championship section and one in Reserve section.

PS. Hart House Chess Club minister of heritage Rob Roller is being difficult.
    Possibly busy...

The dictator-for-life says the heritage minister is being difficult? Don't you have more pull than that? ;)

If it makes any difference to him, tell him Guelph is willing to sign a non-aggression pact with U of T. We may also build a statue in his honour. Given the time constraints, however, the likeness will be largely abstract.

It's been on this weekend for years now, and it seems like most people like it that way (someone suggested the summer at a meeting recently though). Someone is always going to be upset about the timing, but generally the first or second weekend back to class isn't that busy. If you put it on reading week attendance would be down I think (vacation with family, other plans)

FWIW, Half our team is engineers...

You should come; just bring your hwk. It's not too late to change your mind I think. We can make Travis sleep on the floor.

We've already booked 4 rooms at the Walper, not sure how many teams we'll field, either 3 or 4.
                  Who's organizing the pub night?

                  Alex F.
I invited both my parents this year, hope that's adequate.

Those taking a break from cheering for the Canadian continent at Tata in Wijk Aan Zee might enjoy this weekend's event in south-central Ont.

This year sees 16 teams of 4, sectioned in 2 groups. Michael von Keitz might be able to get a selection of photos this weekend. The 2nd round of 4 total at U of Waterloo today started at 4pm, & more scoresheets would get picked up late Sunday, so expect those rounds later on. U of Waterloo A faces U of Toronto A at 1st table in round 2, & perhaps Hal or Michael has a further running standings report.

A couple of games (possibly not all that were submitted yet) from the 1st round follow. Most likely, this round follows approximately the finishing order of submitted games.

Re: 2011 Canadian Post-Secondary Chess Championship

Just a quick update for those of you that may be interested. Before I begin though, refer back to the list of teams - it should now be accurate. Unfortunately for those in the B section, Waterloo B needed to be bumped down to even out the number of teams in each section.

The day started early for us organizers, but that didn't prevent the round from starting late. :( Given the blizzard-like conditions outside, a number of teams arrived well behind schedule this morning, which served as a contributing factor. Of course, if I'm not mistaken, U of T owes its arrival to the heroics of a certain Mr. McMillan - a man for whom Alex F never fails to show his affection. Those that came in last night and still managed to bungle their on-site arrival are also forgiven, as I'm sure, at the very least, Mr. Farine woke up disoriented.

                        First round results were:

                        Section A

                        1. 2 Western A - McGill 2
                        2. 3 1/2 Waterloo A - Guelph A 1/2
                        3. 3 Toronto A - Queen's A 1
                        4. 4 Ottawa A - Toronto B 0

                        Section B

                        1. 3 Waterloo B - Western B 1
                        2. 2 Guelph B - Carleton 2
                        3. 3 Waterloo C - Ottawa B 1
                        4. 3 1/2 McMaster - Queen's B 1/2

The second round is still ongoing, though two matches in the B Section (and one in the A) have finished:

                        2 1/2 McGill - Guelph 1 1/2

                        3 1/2 Waterloo B - McMaster 1/2
                        2 Ottawa B - Queen's B 2

Our intrepid reporter, Kai Gauer, managed to snap some shots of the round earlier today and will also be posting the game scores over the course of the next week or so. Watch for the photos this weekend!

P.S. Frank Dixon, the Queen's Cup has returned in reasonable condition - we shall seek to attempt complete restoration shortly.
