    Does anyone know this player? He listed as a Canadian player but not in our membership database.

    It could be that CFC database is too young for him :)

    Toronto Closed - he played twice 1972 and 1975. Vlad Dobrich had draw with him 1972. Thus, the second person who might recall him.

      I remember Robert Wachtel from Toronto tournaments in the 1970's. It looks like he is another chess player who found more money in another activity - in his case it's backgammon.

      I have 36 of his games in my database - mostly in Toronto from 1970-77, and one tournament i the US in 1992.

          Bob Wachtel came to Toronto about 1980 for graduate work at U of T. He spent a summer with me learning advanced backgammon. After a couple years he went back to the States. I last saw him in LA where he was playing more backgammon about late 80's.
