  • Whatever Works

I just saw this movie on cable. I generally didn't like it. It was heavy-handed, had an easily predictable plot, was too preachy, and generally annoying.

However, the main character (played by Curb Your Enthusiasm's Larry David) was a chess teacher. Very likable ... er, at least I found him likable. Funny, too. Anyway, if you like Woody Allen you will probably like this film. If you are a chess player, at least the chess positions seem real. And if you are a chess teacher, you will probably laugh your head off at the chess bits.

Could they possibly be as funny as Jim Belushi playing the high school chess coach, yelling at his students as they play in the gymnasium: "Move your horsey thing!" ?
