Hi Chris, would you be interested in embedding the EOCA Grand Prix schedule within?

      Hi Aris;

He could have at least done it for the Thanksgiving weekend where we'd get 6 Rounds for our money.

Where is the site in Ottawa in 2009. There's a good chance I may play.

Hi John, I don't disagree, but I think the new executive did the best they could cleaning up a mess. And they seem quite serious about ensuring Ontario Opens in coming years.

On that note, and to answer your question, the 2009 Ontario Open will be held at the RA Centre, which is a good location in Ottawa. We already have a couple of hotels lined up, and for those who know the RA, we have the Courtside rooms, which are quite nice.

If you're not already on my email list, feel free to send me your address (arismarghetis at rogers dot com), and I'll send you event details some time after the Kitchener event.

        All the best, Aris.

Luckily Hal is out of the country or the Guelph event would be the weekend after Chessca!
I think this is a great idea Chris.

In the mid 90's the Ontario Open was held in Kitchener, at the Concordia Club which is one of the German Halls in Kitchener where Oktoberfest activities take place. The event was very successful and I'd suspect this one will be as well.

Yes, and the 2001? Ontario Open in Kitchener is tied for the largest on record (134 players).

apparently your databank doesn't go back very far. Consider for example the 1973 Ontario Open with 250 players.

Well, I wasn't alive back then, and the net info doesn't go that far back either. Unfortunately. (If we had lots of money we could pay someone to go enter in all the old events we could find of course)

I figured some of the Fischer-era events would be quite large though, which is why I qualified it :)

Re: Ontario Open in Kitchener Oct 17-19

Just opening up a random old volume of the CFC magazine, and looking at the annual rating list event index, the 1981 Ontario Open had 219 players, also a bit more than the quoted 134. Heck, I even co-organized an OO with 180 players (but forget the year).

All those years I lived in Ontari-ari-ari-o, and was never in K- or -W. I was in Guelph once, though, and even in exotic Elora. And Paris. I'll never forget Paris. Elizabeth Taylor .... Smile.

Is the OCA going to take back the chessontario.com site? It doesn't seem to have been updated in over a year. And how far *do* the OCA's OO records go back?

... the chessontario site was partly updated a month ago. I know a full update is on Michael's todo list but we're having trouble with his ftp account. And the OCA's "official records" go back 5 years or so.

Could anybody provide a ride from North York on Saturday and Sunday? (all Toronto does not work as an early Sunday TCC traffic is a mess for me).
Please respond here, private message, or email. Thnx.

I need to get some papers to Patrick for the Umbra Olympian Chess Tournament and Fundraiser being helg on November 9.

Is anyone driving down to the Ontario Open from Thornhill / Toronto who could drive it down to him?

Thanks, please call at 416-830-4313 to make arrangements
