  • interesting article about street chess players in San Francisco

Interesting article I found at www.chesscafe.com - Daily News. Todays headlines: "Chess Players Take it to the Streets" Maybe Toronto Chesstables could get an article in the paper as with the latest wonderful weather the action will be starting up again this year (the more rabbits appear at the tables the more $ in action).

In the past couple of years there has been some photos of the outdoor chess at Queen and Church, not as much as when Joe Smolij played the Smash-Crash Gambit next to Sam the Record Man.

An interesting thing about the Market Steet players in San Francisco is that the homeless bring their own buggy full of folding tables and chairs and set up their pieces. To play on their tables they charge $1. It is their source of cash flow. I found that they warmly welcomed new players which I haven't felt at chess tables in other Americian cities.
